Taking a break

And for post number ninety... I'm taking a break. I am cutting back significantly on my gameplay. I am planning on only being on for Assault and Salvage. I do not expect to be updating this blog again unless I start to play regularly again. http://feeds.feedburner.com/GalkaStyle if you want to wait for an update.

Star Sapphire

Not much has happened in FFXI lately, but to keep out streak of good drops in Ashu Talif a star sapphire dropped! The best part about this is that we got the sapphire on Wednesday and it has alread sold for 3.5m. A nice boost for the three of us. I was partly hoping it wouldn't sell so I could buy it cheap from us, but the gil is more than welcome. Too bad we didn't set it higher considering how fast it sold.

Wrong item showing, but you see it in the pool.
Who knows what Suiram was hoping for.

In Salvage we had a very messy Zhayolm. Mages still don't seem to understand the concept of standing outside of water bomb range and inside frog chorus on the fifth floor. Oh well, people will learn their job fast or it will be something I do not have to worry about. We would have been on track for killing the boss and frogs for once if the fifth floor madame hadn't gone so poorly. Bhaflau went much better. We finally had enough time to let an entire rampart expire and killed all the single gears. Unfortunately no preytons spawned to hand over any pants.

Considering I missed Tuesday because of horrible traffic and snow after work I haven't done much this week. Dancer is still sitting at 69. I did get my first campaign emblem. Only three more to go before the update. I don't think I will be able to finish all of the campaign ranks in time. I really need to find the motivation to get a swift belt.

Oh, how they taunt us

How unfair is this screenshot of the upcoming FFXI update? Where are the Galkas or any males for that matter? Not revealing what the male AF is going to look like for dancer suggests that it will be different than the female set. Some sort of salsa/flamingo dancer-esque outfit no doubt. Frilly shirt and tights of course, but losing the rose in the hair. So, the same but different. Heres hoping I will be able to hit 75 before the update. I am 69 now and still have a long way to go.

Preparing for dancer

For some reason I find dancer oddly entertaining. I think the biggest reason is because I don't have to be reliant on anyone for support in most situations. As long as I can cure myself I can keep going for awhile. Here is a list of equipment that I think I need to play the job properly while being realistic about what I can afford or earn. I do not believe weaponskill equipment is needed at all for dancer, so I will not cover that.

Items in bold are items I want or should have, regular font are items I already have, italics are nice to haves.

Weapons:Adder Jambiya/Matron's Knife/JoyeuseIt is unlikely I would merit with dancer which is the only time I see a joyeuse as being useful although it would be nice for working up to 75.
Range:Junior Musketeer's Chakram +2I will most likely stick with this over swapping an ammo with melee stats on it.
Head:Optical Hat/Walahra Turban
Neck:Love Torque
Earrings:Brutal Earring/Something else There are a lot of secondary earrings to choose from. All of them are basically the same.
Body:Scorpion Harness +1/Denali JacketI currently have a normal harness. I do not know if I will upgrade.
Hands:Dusk Gloves
Rings:Rajas Ring/Accuracy ringsAccuarcy rings are all easy to come by.
Back:Charger Mantle/Forager's MantleMaybe it is time to get a forager's.
Waist:Swift Belt
Legs:Barbarossa's Zerehs
Feet:Dusk Ledelsens/Denali Gamashes

After looking closer at many of the options available to dancer the equipment choices are pretty disappointing. I have almost everything I need assuming I am not overlooking anything and can purchase nearly everything I don't already have off of the auction house. I will need to make an attempt at getting a swift belt sooner or later.

Hopefully this coming update in March will reveal interesting artifact armour, unlock a Salvage set for the job (Usukane please!), and introduce another alternate 75ish equipment from Wings of the Goddess. I intend to merit dagger to help strengthen the job. Hopefully dagger merits will be completed before any job specific merits are introduced.

Sooner than expected

When I finished my homam armour set I considered cutting back on Limbus. I decided while sometimes Limbus can be a drag I would continue, because when it goes smoothly it can still be exciting. It just so happened that when I posted that I wanted to cut back and slowly phase Limbus out of my schedule I worked late two Tuesdays in a row. By the time I got home I was too tired to play, so it may have looked like I was starting to cut back to someone who reads this often even though that was not my intention.

Fastforward to this Tuesday, everything is going like normal. I made the parties as quickly as possible after Einherjar. Some off to Temenos and others to Apollyon. My Temenos group was doing the east path. A nice easy one with far more people than we needed and a stun for astral flow. There was nothing else we needed. Everything would be fine.

Shiva plays jack-in-the-box with us to our dismay. The ninja goes down to an unfortunate blizzard IV. Not a big deal the next person with hate has utsusemi and can tank. Wait, the next two people on the hate list do not have utsusemi and I have to waste my mp keeping them alive. Shiva readies diamond dust. Guillotine! Gekko! Induration! Shiva has recovered 250 hit points (or something like that). Oh, only two or three of us are alive now, but Shiva is at 4% and I am almost out of mp. I chainspell thunder III, but it turns out I do not have enough mp for a follow up spell, not even bio. I die and Shiva goes off to chase the people who reraised. We wipe. Everyone but two of us are dead where Shiva is hanging out and I am the only one alive and without chainspell.

That was the run. The most pathetic I have been a part of since I started Limbus. People pulling hate without utsusemi and without seigan, not stunning astral flow on a run they have done before. I'm tired of it. Do they not realize everyone is expected to tank in Limbus and samurai sub doesn't cut it? Do I really have to tell people their job for two year old content? If I could find a way to micromanage anymore than I already do I am pretty sure I would. I am taking a break. Maybe I will be back when I finish dancer.

Barbarossa's zerehs

I expect this to be my last Ashu Talif post for awhile at least. Riding on the tails of obtaining a matron's knife successfully is Barbarossa's very own zerehs. After fifteen or so wins the pants finally dropped for us and we can stop doing this quest. The item was an unexpected, but welcome, after having earned a knife already on Wednesday. This concludes our excursions in Targetting the Captain. We will start doing Royal Painter Escort and Scouting the Ashu Talif in hopes of star sapphires and sashes. We ended up losing Scouting the Ashu Talif. The hard pull screwed us over when we made the mistake of trying to kill hurt Gekko on the pull when we would have been able to kill it had we just waited. Oh well, live and learn.

A welcome surprise for my dancer.

This concludes earning nearly all the best equipment that is currently available for dancer. Rare/ex items anyway. I lack a joyeuse and most Denali armour, but otherwise I have the important items. Love torque, zerehs, matron's knife, and a bunch of other melee stuff I already had. Behemoth knife +1 is moderately better than matron's knife, but the appearance of matron's makes up for everything. I also hope to eventually get an adder jambiya, but that is still awhile away. Since I actually need a good belt on dancer I feel the need to get a swift belt, speed belt isn't realistic for me, but I dread actually going to Sacrarium for all the kills. Maybe I will get lucky...

I ground out a level on dancer in campaign over a few spare hours on Saturday and Sunday. I don't have the time to dedicate to a party, so spending some of the time in campaign is better than solo at this level. I am at 68 and can almost feel the seventies within my grasp. Seven levels to go with lots of cool items available after 70.
